SAN FRANCISCO NIGHT MINISTRY
The Apostle Andrew is mentioned only three times
in the Gospel of John, when he brought his brother Peter
to Jesus; when he responded to a tired and hungry crowd by
bringing a boy with loaves and fish to Jesus; and when he
introduced a group of inquiring Greeks to Jesus. Andrew
is not always on our minds when we think Apostle (he's not as
flashy as his brother), but he was faithful and loving and
effective in helping people make a meaningful connection with
Jesus.
In many ways Andrew could be the poster apostle
for Night Ministry. We don't march down the streets of
the city with fanfare - no band, coffee wagon or liturgical
procession. Each night we simply walk the streets
offering a listening ear, meaningful conversation, prayers and
blesssings, counseling, referrals to programs and agencies, a
ride to the hospital, or crisis intervention. In the
midst of some of the most unusual places, Jesus is found and
connections are made every night of the
year.
For 46 years, Night Ministry has been a place
for those lonely, anxious and afraid to turn, so they might
hear a word of comfort, encouragement and hope. Thank
you for your Second Mile Giving support of Night Ministry, and
for remembering our volunteers, staff and those we
serve in your daily prayers.
