As much as I might like to take this opportunity
to write about some other topic, I think it is important to
give you a "Transition Update."
Bishop Mark, Karen
Idler, and Laureen Sullivan, are all nicely settled into their
temporay "digs" at Calvary, Rio Linda. The
space works well and the people have been wonderfully
welcoming and helpful.
Pastor Jim Goldsmith is living in Fresno and is
presently operating out of his home office, his car, and
others' offices and conference rooms. We expect that he
will be able to move into his new space at the Campus Ministry
Center in Fresno
by mid-August.
Pastor Harvey Blombery and I are also working
out of our homes, cars, and offices of other
pastors throughout the synod. Our move into the
space at St. Mark's, San Francisco, has been delayed due to
some unexpected construction issues (isn't that always the
way?). At this point, I hesitate to offer a likely
move-in date, but we'll keep you updated on that.
The very good news about all of this is that we have
acheieved a few of our basic goals:
-
We are deployed! We are out and about
and that will only increase and improve as time goes
on.
-
We are connected! Our server has
successfully moved. Our phone service offers us all
sorts of techie options like remote phones, call forwarding,
instant messaging, conference calling, and more, all as if
we were just down the hall from one another. Even with
a few rough patches, we are figuring it out and it's
working!
The one
other thing that I need to
say may be obvious to you, but I'll say it anyway: It isn't
perfect. There have been and will be glitches. The
server was down for a day and a half. Some of our stuff
is in storage. We hope we didn't
pack something we really need, but we might have.
(If anyone sees Bishop Mark's office lamp globe and light
bulb, please contact us! They are still
missing...) So, as before, we ask again for your prayers,
your patience, and your ideas. This continues to be a
work in progress...but then again...what/who isn't?
Peace,
Nancy
