LUTHERAN WORLD FEDERATION SUNDAY SET FOR OCTOBER
4TH
"Our Daily Bread -- Celebrating God's
Abundance" will be the theme of Lutheran World Federation
Sunday this year. Lutheran congregations throughout the
United States are invited to focus on the question "What is
Enough: Perspectives on Food Security and Food Sovereignty" as
they observe Lutheran Federation Sunday. The theme is
timely for the current world realities and in anticipation of
the LWF Eleventh Assembly in Stuttgart, Germany in 2010.
The resource Lutheran World Information
includes stories and reflection from around the world, from
youth, men and women, diakonia workers and church leaders
about how we address the problems that affect not only the
poor but are also challenging us, those with
bread. Additional resources are available at www.elca.org/lwf
and www.lutheranworld.org. The
Lutheran World Federation is a global communion of Christian
churches in the Lutheran tradition. Founded in 1947
in Lund, Sweden., the LWF now has 140 member churches in 79
countries representing 68 million of the nearly 70 million
Lutherans worldwide. The LWF acts on behalf of its member
churches in areas of common interest such as ecumenical
relations, theology, humanitarian assistance, human rights,
communication, and the various aspects of mission and
development work. Its secretariat is located in Geneva,
Switzerland. Since 2003, ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark S.
Hanson has served as president of the LWF. Pr.

SYNOD ASSEMBLY 2010
Thursday, May 6 - 10:00 am
through
Saturday, May 8 - 12:00 noon
Silver Legacy Hotel
Reno, Nevada
The Assembly Planning Committee has begun
planning the details. You will be hearing more as time
goes on, but we have a first question: Do you know of a
great musical group or musician that could inspire our voting
members or enhance our worship? Local would be a plus,
but not a necessity.
Please send your suggestions to me at
kathryn@sierrabeck.com. If we don't include
him/her/them this year, we'll pass the list on to the next
planners. I look forward to seeing you in
Reno.

Chair

OPPORTUNITY TO SPONSOR A SYNOD
MISSIONARY
Your congregation is being invited to consider
sponsoring an ELCA missionary from our synod. Pastor
Arden Strasser now serves in Zambia, and his letters are
posted under "Mission" on the synod website. All
congregations that are currently not engaged in
missionary sponsorship will receive a letter of
information and invitation.
ELCA missionary covenant sponsors make a three-fold
commitment to pray for, financially support, and communicate
with a missionary. Sponsors receive regular updates both
from the mission and from Global Mission Support. This
"hand in hand" network of relationships helps us do God's work
as we proclaim the good news of Christ, serve all people, and
strive for justice and peace in all the earth.
