Blessings and peace in this Holy Week. I pray your celebrations of the Great Three Days – Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday will lead to a grand celebration of The Resurrection of Our Lord on Easter Sunday!
During the past several weeks, it has been my privilege and blessing to travel around our synod to offer eleven Chrism Mass celebrations and ten “Chili with the Bishop” gatherings. I have appreciated the chance to connect with members and leaders of our congregations from all nine of our conferences. Thank you for coming out to be a part of these gatherings; it was my honor to get to spend time with you.
This year, we had more rostered ministers participate in the Chrism Masses than we have had in years past, which means that more of the oils which are blessed as a part of that service have been distributed than ever before. Oils for healing, for blessing those preparing for the affirmation of their baptism, and for use in baptisms were taken from those services to all the congregations where the rostered ministers who attended serve in ministry. I pray these oils will be a blessing in the lives of the people who receive anointing as a part of their walk of faith.
I like the image of these oils being carried from Chrism Mass services to our congregations and ministries as a way of realizing how our lives and ministries are deeply connected, in spite of the geography we deal with in this large synod. Thank you for the opportunity to serve our shared ministry. Know that I am especially mindful of what a busy, glorious week this is in all of our congregations. May you be blessed as we move through this week, united in Christ, in all of the places where we have been called to love and serve in Christ’s name.
