SPSYC High School Retreat
by Kathye Hamm
This past weekend, I spent about 18 hours with the youth and adults that make up the Sierra Pacific Synod Youth Committee (SPSYC). We spent time in fellowship, leadership development, faith development and planning. With a short time in there for sleeping!
SPSYC plans and leads three retreats a year, and their next one is coming up in February. The High School retreat – for students in grades 9-12 will be February 23-25 at Mt. Cross. This is a chance for the HS aged youth in our synod to gather together for fellowship, worship, faith discussions and fun!
At the High School retreat youth are elected to serve on SPSYC for a one year term. There was a restructuring last year, and all terms are now for one year, and there are up to 27 youth spots that will be elected in late February. If you are, or if you know of, an interested youth that will be in grades 9-12 next year, please check out the elections information on the SPSYC website and encourage interested youth to fill out the application found on that page.
We hope that we will have a number of youth attend the high school retreat and also put their names forward to serve on SPSYC. It is an excellent opportunity to grown in faith, leadership and make new friends!
