Companion Synods

Companion Synods
The Sierra Pacific Synod is blessed to be in a Companion Synod relationship with Lutheran Church of Rwanda, a young and growing church in the heart of Africa.  Currently, 21 congregations in our synod have Sister Parish relationships in Rwanda. We are looking for 5 more congregations to walk in accompaniment with a Rwandan Lutheran parish.

This past October, the bishop of the LCR, Bishop Evalister Mugabo, made his second visit to our synod. Our relationships have been strengthened over the years by many visits, both Rwandans coming to visit here and SPS members traveling to Rwanda.  Each person who has made one or more of these trips has been richly blessed by this life-altering experience. We are excited to announce that you, too, can receive this blessing!  A delegation from the Sierra Pacific Synod will be traveling with Bishop Holmerud to Rwanda in late October 2019 to celebrate the 25thanniversary of the LCR.  If you feel called to deepen your relationship with our companions in Rwanda, or to develop a relationship with Lutherans across the globe, prayerfully consider this opportunity.  We would especially appreciate people who are interested in joining the Sierra Pacific Synod’s Global Missions Advocacy Team to join this delegation and get a chance to meet our Rwandan partners and see for themselves the work of the Lutheran Church of Rwanda.  More details about this trip will be available soon.

In the meantime, you are invited to attend the annual Sierra Pacific Synod Rwanda Connections meeting from 1:00-4:00 on Feb 23rd at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1615 Morse Avenue in Sacramento. There you can learn more about the joys and challenges of SPS congregations and members involved with the LCR and about many important ministries, such as the Rwamagna School and PICO community organizing projects. Pastor John Rutsindintwarane will be our special guest at this meeting and will share with us some of the most recent developments taking place in Rwanda.
