A Message from Katy Grindberg, Assistant to the Bishop

A Message from Katy Grindberg, Assistant to the Bishop

As you read this, the members of the Sierra Pacific Synod delegation in Rwanda will be gathering. Seventeen people from our synod (and beyond) have traveled to Rwanda to celebrate with the Lutheran Church of Rwanda as they mark the 25th anniversary of their church. On Christmas Eve in 1994, after the genocide and fighting ended, Lutherans who primarily came from refugees camps, gathered under a tree and worshiped for the first time as the Lutheran Church of Rwanda (LCR). The Sierra Pacific Synod has been blessed by our global partnership arrangement with the LCR and many trips have happened between our two church bodies.

Members of the delegation are: Sara Wilson (PLTS) and Savanna Sullivan (ELCA) – our intrepid delegation leaders; Bp Mark and Debbi Holmerud; Joshua Armstrong (Mt. Cross, Ben Lomand);  Jackie Boynton (Marina, Seaside); Pr. Katy Grindberg (Office of the Bishop); Kathye Hamm (Office of the Bishop and Christ the King, Orangevale); Julie Hettig (Faith, Meadow Vista); Pr. Adam Knutson (Hope, Fresno); Colter Murphy (Faith, Chico); Mary Ritter (St. Mark’s, San Francisco); Cindy Tuisku (Auburn);  Pr. Ron and Sara Valadez (Bethlehem, Auburn); and Pr. Todd and Cathi Wallace (Good Shepherd, Sacramento).

It is an honor to be part of this delegation – please hold all of the members in prayer, and also for the Lutheran Church of Rwanda as they live out the gospel in their part of the world. Follow the delegation hashtag (#spsRwanda2019) on social media and check out the synod’s Facebook page for posts and pictures.

God’s peace,

Pr. Katy Grindberg
