Organist

St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in SF, aka ‘The German Church’, is looking for an organist for Sunday mornings. It’s strictly an accompanist position. The organist is paid per service (for most of the year, we have two services on a Sunday morning; on first Sundays and during the summer, we have one service). Compensation is competitive. If interested, please contact Pr. Kerstin Weidmann at 925-330-2289 or pastorweidmann@stmatthews-sf.org.

Youth Director

St. Luke Lutheran Church of Sunnyvale, California (www.stlukechurch.org) is looking for a Youth Director to cast vision and continue the momentum of our growing youth and family ministry. St. Luke is in the heart of Silicon Valley and just as the tech industry is changing our world through innovation, we want to be a launchpad for our youth who will change the world with their faith in Jesus. Our motto is, “At St. Luke we are energized by God’s love.” If you are feeling energized, here is more info to get to know us…

St. Luke is located in a family-friendly neighborhood within walking distance of top-ranked elementary, middle, and high schools. Sunnyvale is 45 minutes south of San Francisco, 40 minutes from the beach, and 3-5 hours’ drive to the mountains (ski resorts, Yosemite, Sequoia, Lake Tahoe). St. Luke has over 300 members with a strong music program including adult choir, hand bell choir, and praise band. Our campus hosts two separately managed school programs including our highly rated, year-round, Amazing Creations Preschool (ACP) that serves 65 kids and the Sunny Chinese Learning Center (SCLC) with another 80 school-age kids in their after-school program. Our youth ministry includes Sunday school programs for kids from cradle to graduation. Our confirmation and high school groups are going strong with multiple social activities each month ranging from service projects, to movie and game nights, lock-ins, multi-church events, and summer church camps. In the summer, we hold a week-long VBS program and 2018 saw our largest participation ever with over 120 kids attending. In September of 2017, we opened our new Youth Outpost, which is a tree-house structure built under our beautiful heritage blue oak; the Youth Outpost was inspired by the vision of our pastor during a mountain retreat earlier that year. Our church family is a microcosm of the diversity that makes up the San Francisco Bay Area and we hope you consider adding your energy to our journey with God!

Just as the tech industry is full of energetic innovators, we’re looking for an energetic leader who prioritizes people, professionalism, and fun while working in collaboration with our senior Pastor, youth board, and our great volunteers to:

  • Define and coordinate the Sunday School, confirmation, and high school youth programs
  • Plan, promote, and lead social activities, service projects and mission trips for our youth
  • Plan and lead annual events such as Rally Day, Easter Egg hunt, Christmas Pageant, and VBS
  • Lead weekly chapel with ACP and SCLC youth
  • Build relationships with our youth and families
  • Recruit and empower our youth and adult volunteers
  • Participate in weekly church services including presenting a monthly children’s message

Our ideal partner in youth ministry would be a team player with a bachelor’s degree and experience working with youth in a leadership role. You must be open to teaching according to a Lutheran perspective of faith and you are expected to live in or near Sunnyvale. We are hiring for 30 hours per week and offering a competitive compensation package that is dependent on education and experience.

If you’re interested, please submit your resume and cover letter to youth@stlukechurch.org or via US Mail:
