A Message from Bill Wong, Call Process Assistant

Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!

We are in the midst of the Easter season. Simultaneously, spring is here. Warmer weather and sunny days have arrived. We are dealing with daylight saving time. Baseball season has started. Spring break is coming to an end. Plants are in bloom. Bees are out among the flowers. Signs of new life surround us. What new life or signs of resurrection have you noticed since Easter Day? In what ways have you experienced the risen Jesus Christ?

Along with being a part-time call process assistant, I continue to serve as a part-time intentional interim pastor at Peace Lutheran Church, Grass Valley, CA. During the past couple of months, I have noticed that when Peace folks came to the church office, they often shared news and stories about their journey to receive a Covid-19 vaccination. They told us about how they made the vaccination appointment, the people who helped them through the vaccination process, where and how they received the vaccination, their experience with side effects, and whether this was their first or second vaccination shot. As each person shared their vaccination story, they smiled. Their telling of their story was lively, energetic, and animated. They were glad, pleased, and amazed at their good fortune. They expressed relief. Hope filled their story that there was really light at the end of the pandemic tunnel. And they were filled with anticipation of being able to be with family and friends. They looked forward to whatever will be “normal.” They looked forward to coming together in person to be church.

As I listened to each story, I realized that I received a gift, a sign of renewal, a reminder that life goes on and hope is alive. From each vaccination story, I sensed a preview of Easter and the breaking in of God’s new creation for each of these persons.

I encourage everyone to receive a Covid-19 vaccination and to share their vaccination story with the people around them. And you are welcome to share your responses to my questions: What new life or signs of resurrection have you noticed since Easter Day? In what ways have you experienced the risen Jesus Christ? I always like to hear a good story about new life and resurrection. My email address is bwong@spselca.org.

I thank God for the Covid-19 vaccines which renew us for life and for community. Blessings as we continue to rejoice and share in the good news of the risen Jesus Christ.

With confidence and hope in the crucified and risen Jesus Christ,

Bill
